Salaam Aleikum – Islam of peace in the North
Islam in modern times is unfortunately identified with violence, terrorism and religious extremism. Islam has become threatening In the eyes of many people. That wasn’t always the case: throughout history and even today you can definitely find a different face and a much more lovey one, of Islam.
Our goal on this trip is to reveal the other face of Islam and find out what Islam can teach us today in a positive and constructive way? We will focus on the spiritual principles of Islam, practice prayer and meditation techniques and meet movements and people that are less familiar and far more tolerant.
In Haifa we will meet the special and peace-loving ‘Ahmadi’ movement. Near the mosque there is the ‘Siach wadi’ where we will walk, enjoy the unique urban scenery of Haifa and examine the relationship Islam has with nature as part of their spiritual work. We will continue to Acre where Muhammad’s beard hairs are preserved until this day and visit the impressive center of the mystical Sufi order ‘Shazli-Yashruti’. There we will experience some Muslim mysticism and their call to love God and man. We hope to return home with a different Muslim message than what is focused upon in the global media.
Where will we visit?
